The Catholic cemetery is the final resting place for the members of our Faith Community on our Journey to God. It is the gate of heaven. Burial in the consecrated ground of the Catholic cemetery allows you to share your faith values with future generations of your family. This legacy of faith is your gift to them. Catholic cemeteries are signs of hope that are places of prayer. They witness our faith in the Lord Jesus and the hope we share in his resurrection.
Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes
The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Seattle will be joining other Catholic cemeteries across the United States in a Memorial Day weekend program called “Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes”. We all know people who have served our country. They are our fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles. You may have served yourself. We offer a profound “Thank You”.
A Memorial Day Prayer Tribute board will be prominently located at the cemetery. You are invited to add your prayer intentions with those of other cemetery guests. Your local Catholic cemetery will be joining with thousands of other Catholic cemeteries across the country in the celebration of the holy Mass. Mass on Memorial Day, May 27, will begin at 10:30am. Immediately preceding the Mass, an Honor Guard will perform a wreath laying ceremony in the chapel.
We remember in prayer and honor all of our beloved dead. Please mark your calendar to join us at your local Catholic cemetery – Calvary (Seattle), Holyrood (Shoreline), Gethsemane (Federal Way), St. Patrick (Kent) –to remember and pray for all of our veterans both living and dead over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend: May 25 – 27, 2013.
